Description
A milestone painting for me. Old Galveston Square is an oil painting on a 18x24 inch canvas. The place and time is real and very active for a winter day in Galvestion in January 2002. I took a snap shot photo as my wife and grandson are in the scene. I started painting it a few years later and finally got it finished in 2011. I went back to Galveston to look at the square again to renew the feel for the place. There is a lot of interesting movement in this composition such as how the people were watching the chess game and the traffic in the background. One of my favorite objects in the background is the horn on the building in back. I enjoyed working on this painting and the trips to Galveston. I hope you enjoy it also.

Wonderful painting. So much to see in this. I hadn't noticed the horn until I read your memories of this scene. A v/f.

Thank you so much for you comments about Old Galveston Square. It is a people place. This scene was in February 2002 when I took the picture of my wife in grandson standing in the square. I didn't get around to painting it until years later. There was a jazz band playing and people out enjoying the day.
