Artist's Description
Espiritu Santo Mission Cannon is a sequel painting to the Espiritu Santo Mission. You can see this canon in the first painting if you squint. This one is on a 12 x 16 inch stretched canvas and also done in oils. The bright midday sunlight blended the building and sky together in the background, but resulted in nice highlights and cast shadows in the foreground.
About Jimmie Bartlett
I am a painter and love the processes and the creation of a painting. As a child growing up I had a natural tendency to draw and build things. I spent most of my working life in the technical field, but the yearning to fulfill my desire to draw and paint was strong, and I found my real passion was to paint. With the gracious support of my wife Carolyn, painting full time became a reality. For me, painting is a gift from God, and the ultimate release of creativity. I paint subjects that catch my eye or from my imagination and don't specialize in any particular area of painting; but, want to make every one of my works special. I enjoy all of it: from taking photographs one day and on to painting landscapes or portraits the next day. ...

Great composition, using the arch to good effect. Very subtle shading and good draughtsmanship, in particular on the gun carriage. v

Thanks Kathy for your encouraging remarks. We spent a couple of days in Goliad, TX exploring the two missions there. I enjoy learning about and getting the feel of places before painting them.
