Hats off to you, Jimmie, for successfully tackling not only the oft-neglected viola (a philosopher among orchestral instruments--always ready to come to the aid of others but never calling attention to itself)--and throwing in a bow for good measure!

Jimmie Bartlett replied:

Thanks Joseph for your wonderful feedback. Much Appreciated!

A very difficult string instrument to learn, but this painting is really superb. Like that light reflection on the furniture.

Jimmie Bartlett replied:

Thank you Joe for your encouraging remarks. The Viola was challenging to paint, a very detailed instrument with a beautiful sound.

Artist's Description

This painting is of a Viola which is a couple of inches longer than the regular violin. I looked up (google) the difference between a fiddle and a violin and found there is none. Some of the fiddlers change the bridge piece, but not really necessary. Both styles of music can be played on the same instrument. The original is available. Located in Van Vleck, Texas, USA.

About Jimmie Bartlett

Jimmie Bartlett

I am a painter and love the processes and the creation of a painting. As a child growing up I had a natural tendency to draw and build things. I spent most of my working life in the technical field, but the yearning to fulfill my desire to draw and paint was strong, and I found my real passion was to paint. With the gracious support of my wife Carolyn, painting full time became a reality. For me, painting is a gift from God, and the ultimate release of creativity. I paint subjects that catch my eye or from my imagination and don't specialize in any particular area of painting; but, want to make every one of my works special. I enjoy all of it: from taking photographs one day and on to painting landscapes or portraits the next day. ...
